The Garrett G42-1200 puts a 73 mm compressor inducer on Garrett's G42 mid-frame platform. Garrett rates it at 475 to 1,200 HP on engines from 2.0 to 7.0 litres, calculated from the compressor's choke flow; what your build makes depends on the rest of the engine and the tune. This is the version with the full-size compressor housing.
The compressor wheel is forged and fully machined, with 10 blades shaped by CFD, and the housing has a machined ported shroud against surge plus machined ports for a speed sensor and boost pressure. The rotor runs on a 10 mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge, with twin piston rings at each end of the shaft and an oil deflector to keep oil out of the seals. The Inconel turbine wheel and stainless steel turbine housings are rated to 950 °C, and Garrett quotes 10% more turbine flow than the GTX42. The backplate is aluminium, the compressor housing turns a full 360°, and two -6AN water fittings are included.
Turbine housing: Garrett offers the G42 turbine kits in A/R 1.01, 1.15 or 1.28, each either with a V-band inlet and outlet or with a divided T4 inlet and V-band outlet, all free-float. GT and GTX turbine housings do not fit. Choose the housing and A/R above; each one is a complete turbocharger with that Garrett turbine kit (757707-0011 to -0016).
A G-Series speed sensor kit (781328-0003 with gauge, or 781328-0004) is sold separately; GT / GTX sensor kits do not fit.
